The time may arise when you will need to evacuate your home to go to a more secure location such as a shelter. If you have a disability or a special need, such as a medical condition, it is vital that you register for the county’s Emergency Management Office Special Needs Registry. The Emergency Management Office maintains a list of residents within Gadsden County who have disabilities or special needs so they can be assisted quickly during an emergency, as well as utilize the county’s Special Needs Shelter.
If you take medicine or utilize medical treatment daily, ensure that you have what’s needed to make it on your own for at least one week. This is especially important if you are a dialysis patient. Contact your provider to find out what you should do if you need to evacuate your home, as well as who you should contact if their office is closed on your treatment day(s).
As the holiday weekend approaches, you are encouraged to take this time to check your medication supply. If you do not have at least a 30-day supply of your medications, you should contact your provider or pharmacist immediately to find out what steps you can take to obtain an early refill.
During severe weather and other emergencies, the State Assistance Information Line (SAIL), a toll-free hotline, is activated to provide accurate and up-to-date information on emergency or disaster situations impacting the State of Florida. The SAIL hotline is 1-(800) 342-3557.
