GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla - -The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) today encouraged Gadsden County businesses and residents to join them in celebrating Public Works Week May 19-25, 2024.
“We are thrilled to celebrate National Public Works Week and showcase the hard work and dedication of our Public Works Department,” said BOCC Chairman Ronterious “Ron” Green. “This week provides a simple, positive, and fun opportunity for us to engage with the community and highlight the vital role that public works play in maintaining our city’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.”
The “Advancing Quality of Life for All” theme highlights the ability of public works professionals to contribute to and enhance the quality of life in all the communities they proudly serve.
Public works superheroes help keep communities strong by providing infrastructure services in transportation, roads and bridges, parks and grounds, emergency management first response, and right-of-way management. They make Gadsden County a great place to live, work and play.
Gadsden County’s Public Works Department maintains over 700 miles of roads in unincorporated Gadsden County.
The Public Works Director and key staff are members of the Emergency Management Team and are essential in helping prepare the County for and during storm events. During hurricane season, the staff remains on-call and is dispatched immediately following storm events to clear right-of-ways.
Public Works is responsible for administering policy and objectives, responding to citizens’ needs, providing department guidance and direction, reviewing policy matters, preparing and monitoring capital projects, and ensuring consistent day-to-day maintenance of county roads and stormwater infrastructure.
The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners will present a proclamation to Gadsden County Public Works personnel on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. during their regularly schedule County Commission meeting.
“I am so proud of my team and all they do for Gadsden County,” Gadsden County Public Works Director Curtis Young said. “One week is not enough to thank Gadsden County Public Work employees for all they do. They are the backbone of our community.
